What does offset mean in the thermostat?
If you have had to deal with adjusting a thermostat you've probably come across offset and wondered what it is. If this is the case then continue reading because we will explain to you with a practical example what it is!
What does offset mean in the thermostat
The offset in a thermostat is a parameter which allows you to compensate (from the English offset) the temperature detected by the internal sensor or remote probe of the thermostat, so as correct any systematic reading errors due to the positioning of the thermostat environment in an area that could influence its correct functioning.
When to adjust the offset
Have you ever read a high temperature on the thermostat, say for example 22 degrees, but were convinced that it wasn't possible, because there are certainly fewer of them in the room? Those who are most certain of the error even go so far as to equip themselves with other instruments to measure the temperature of the room and perhaps discover that they were right. Is the thermostat broken?
In reality, most of the time problem is not in the thermostat, but in the place where it was installed . In fact, it happens that the provisions for installation are sometimes found in so-called "unhappy" points , such as particularly cold walls (thermal bridges), areas exposed to air currents (near doors or windows), or heat sources.
In all these cases it is normal for the temperature reading by the thermostat to be considerably altered, either too much or too little, compared to the actual temperature of the room.
It is in this situation that possibility to adjust the offset .
