Chronothermostat: what it is and how it works
Generally, among non-experts, it is common to generically call all the devices that control the heating in the house thermostats. It often happens that a chronothermostat and not a thermostat. But what's the difference?
The chronothermostat owes its name to the two "factors" that must combine to turn on the boiler, namely the time and the temperature. The thermostat, on the other hand, is based solely on detecting the temperature to turn the boiler on or off.
Chronothermostat: advantages
The first advantage of the chronothermostat is therefore that of being able to adjust the temperature you want in your home based on time slots. Naturally, if the temperature set for a given time is lower than that which the chronothermostat detects in the room at that moment, the boiler will not be turned on.
This brings us to the second great advantage, namely the possibility of regulating two temperatures, called Comfort and Reduction , for the purpose of reduce consumption and therefore the costs on the bill and the impact on the environment .

Sun and moon symbol in the programmable thermostat: What do they mean?
The comfort temperature is the one we want to have when we "live" in the house, that is, when we are not outside or under the covers! Normally this temperature is associated with daylight hours , so the symbols you will find on chronothermostats to indicate the comfort temperature are the symbol of sun .
Conversely, moon indicates reduction temperature , precisely because night is usually the time when you least want the heating to work. The reduction ultimately indicates the degrees below which we do not want to drop the temperature of the room.

Programming example
In the image below you will find an example of chronothermostat programming based on the Freetime , one of our best-selling products, which owes its diffusion to the extreme ease of configuration. Even those who have an innate aversion to chronothermostats can quickly learn the operating logic of the Freetime - here , if in doubt, we have also written how to set it. From here it is then easy to apply the same approach to every type of chronothermostat on the market.

As you can see in the image, Freetime has time slots (in this case preset) and for each of them you can decide whether to select the comfort temperature (yellow arrow) or reduction (blue arrow). The two temperature knobs, as can easily be understood at this point, will control one the comfort and the other the reduction.
To find out how to adjust the Freetime chronothermostat for summer and winter, we have also written this article: Freetime summer-winter chronothermostat .
